Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's departure from her family members, she was raised to maturity by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. In her early years she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to associations with words. Ford began to become fascinated by acting during her teenaged years, and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after one week decided she didn't fit in. Ford then applied for a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Her classmate was Shaun Dingwall, who would play a part in the role of Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in 1991. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in television shows including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London Burning. Tate would also frequently work as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. However, Tate was soon gaining notice for her stand-up comedy and added stand-up comedy to her repertoire in 1996.
